MOST’s delegation to attend the 38th UNESCO General Conference

From November 03 to 18, 2015, UNESCO General Conference had its session in Paris. According to the proposal of Viet Nam National Commission for UNESCO, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Science and Technology sent their delegations to attend...

Deputy Minister Phạm Công Tạc, leader of Viet Nam’s delegation to attend and have a speech in the opening session of UNESCO General Conference. The Deputy Minister, on behalf of the Government of Viet Nam, worked with Ms. Irina Bokova, UNESCO’s Director General and Ms. Flavia Schlegel, Deputy Director in charge of Natural Sciences.



In the Preliminary session of UNESCO’s Committee for Natural Sciences, the General Conference approved Viet Nam’s proposal on establishing 02 International Centers for Mathematics and Physics recognized and sponsored by UNESCO. In UNESCO's Man and the Biosphere Programme by 2025 (MAB), the General Conference also approved Viet Nam’s initiative on the Biosphere Reserve Area as a low-carbon green and economic growth model.

Also in the Preliminary session, Viet Nam supported the establishment of a new Program of UNESCO, adding Geography Parks to the Geography Science Program to become the “International Geosciences and Geoparrks Programme” (IGGP).



The delegation worked with Mr. Han Qunli, Chairman of UNESCO’s Man and the Biosphere Program, about Viet Nam’s proposal on the Biosphere Reserve Area as a low-carbon green and economic growth model, at the same time, reported briefly about the implementation of S&T themes which have supported Viet Nam’s Biosphere Reserve Areas in 2015. Mr. Han Qunli highly appreciated the initiative and roles of the Ministry of Science and Technology and proposed Viet Nam to send the list of above-mentioned themes to be uploaded in the MAB website for sharing information.
